Networking 101: Networking Professional

What you need to know about networking:

Goal Setting

As in everything else in life, you need to know why and how you’ll be going through the process before you start. Sure, one of your targets this year is to make sure you land a decent job through your connections. But it’s not all there is to it.

To get started in setting your goals, you need to follow the SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) format. This way, you can establish what, when, and how you can exactly execute what you want to get out of networking. In addition, you may also establish short-term and long-term goals to make your plans more concrete when connecting with other people.

Moreover, you need to determine what specific industry you want to work in. If possible, you should also include a certain job position you want to have. Because who wants to have applicants who don't even know what they want in the first place?

The Power of Authenticity

Being yourself helps you form genuine connections because believe it or not, people tend to sense if you’re just there because you want something from them versus you want to really help them out with something.

Share your passions, interests, and goals when interacting with others. After all, networking is about building relationships, not just swapping business cards and always expecting something in return.

Starting Close to Home

Networking doesn't have to begin with strangers at fancy events. Start by tapping into your existing network of friends, family, professors, and schoolmates. Let them know you're on the hunt for your first job. These people may have contacts in industries you're interested in or can provide valuable insights. It's surprising how often great opportunities come from unexpected places and you get to discover them by directly asking about them.

Building Online Presence

Create a professional profile on social media sites such as LinkedIn and make sure it showcases your skills, experiences, and goals as you embark on your career. Engage with industry professionals, join relevant groups, and contribute to discussions. While social media has a lot of perks, keep in mind that it can also lead to problems if you tend to overshare. Keep your personal accounts professional and clean, as potential employers may check them. Let your online presence work in your favor, not against you.

Attending Industry Events

Networking events, career fairs, and industry conferences are fantastic opportunities to meet professionals and expand your network. Research more about the event and the attendees before the actual day. Dress smart, bring your resume, and have a friendly elevator pitch ready. Start pleasant and thought-provoking conversations, ask questions, and actively listen to others. Remember, networking is not about simply selling yourself, but building genuine connections based on mutual interests and aspirations.

Following Up and Nurturing Relationships

After meeting someone interesting, don't let the connection fade away. Follow up with a personalized email or message to express your appreciation for the conversation and to continue the dialogue. Stay engaged by offering support, sharing industry-related articles, or connecting them with other professionals. Networking is an ongoing process, so don't forget to nurture those relationships, even if they don't immediately lead to a job opportunity.

State of Survival

Networking is not just about scoring job offers but also about building meaningful relationships that can shape your career trajectory. Stay true to yourself, tap into your existing network, and leverage the power of online platforms. Attend industry events, be a good listener, and follow up to maintain those connections. Embrace the adventure, and don't get discouraged by setbacks. It takes time, patience, and effort to build a strong network, but the rewards are worth it. So, get out there, make friends, and let the magic unfold.

8-Point Test to Identify Legit Companies

💡Smart Tip: Know your 8-Point Test to Identify Legit Companies!

Here are the 8 questions to ask before signing up with any Direct-Selling Business:
  1. Are there products?
  2. Is the intent to sell a product not a position?
  3. Are commission paid on sale of products and not on registration/entry fees?
  4. Is there no correlation between the number of recruits and compensation?
  5. Do products have fair market value?
  6. Is there a compelling reason to buy the products being offered?
  7. Is there a reasonable product return policy?
  8. If recruitment were to be stopped today, will participants still make money?

Real Network Marketing vs Pyramid Scam

This article aims to educate the consumers to spot pyramiding and unregistered investment scams of companies who claim to be network marketing business opportunities but are actually not. While Network Marketing or multi level marketing (MLM) is legitimate, many unscrupulous or misguided entrepreneurs create MLM-like compensation plans that are downright illegal violating the laws of the Philippines and destroys the ecosystem of sustainable business practices. I will share cases to dissect and illustrate.

Case #1: The late Bernie Madoff was once a very trusted person. Imagine having the credential as a one time non-executive chairman of the Nasdaq stock market while his company was once the 6th largest market maker in S&P 500 stocks in the U.S. In March 2009, after running an unsustainable investment scheme for over a decade, he was convicted of running the biggest Ponzi scheme in the world, valued at about US$64.8 billion, for which he was meted out the maximum 150-year prison term. He also forfeited over US$17 billion, and was banned for life from the securities industry.

Myth #1: High profile people, such as a financial expert, a philanthropist, a known socialite, a charismatic religious leader, a known businessman with rich parents, entrepreneurs with expensive cars can never run a scam!

Reality #1: There are high profile people who have been convicted of scams in the past.

Case #2: Company A sells overpriced products and make more money from registration fee, encouraging its members to earn money by recruiting new members than retailing products. Having no fair market value is evidenced with few buyers buying without joining the company to participate in the money scheme.

Myth #2: We sell products, we are not pyramiding!

Reality n#2: Pyramiding is a hierarchal chain distribution scheme that offers members/investors profits based on recruiting others to join them as downlines (people recruited under an existing member), not based much on any resale of products or real investment. This is illegal in the Philippines, violating Article 53 of Republic Act 7394. Check if there is a direct correlation between recruits and earning payout. If there is, it is an indicator of pyramiding. To go around this rule, no company will be stupid enough not to have products, so they just overprice their products versus other industry players. The income derived are mostly from within recruits through registration fee, not retailing products to outside customers. Since the rewards for recruits are much more compelling, members are attracted to keep recruiting than do retailing of products, after all, their products have no fair market value, the intent is not selling of products to retail customers but that of recruiting.

Case #3: A binary company convince its members to buy business centers (known as “Headers”) in order to earn as many times as the business centers they signed up. Binary scheme is based on recruiting two people, with these two recruiting their own two and so on. The “spillover” (excess recruits) are put below a recruit to complete the binary.  For instance, Mr. A may have two members on his first level, four on his second level, eight on his third level, sixteen on his fourth, thirty two on his fifth, sixty four on his sixth level, for a total of 127 downlines. Except in a “header” system, instead of downlines/members being recruited by Mr. A, Mr. A signed himself up in all these business centers, at any of the levels. At P10,000 each, the investment paid by Mr. A to the company was P1.27 million, paying the uplines (those who recruited Mr. A) handsome commissions.

Myth #3: Business centers or headers are legitimate way to earn income.

Reality #3: Binary plan selling “headers” are classified as unregistered investment, a violation of Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code (SRC), punishable with the penalty or fine of not less than Fifty thousand pesos (P50,000.00) nor more than Five million pesos (P5,000,000.00) or imprisonment of not less than seven (7) years nor more than twenty-one (21) years, or both at the discretion of the court as provided for in Sec. 73 of the SRC. Independent members, specially those who lost money, can file charges against the binary company and/or their uplines. This is exploiting the “Theory of Greater Fool” at work, convincing a greater fool to invest, and the greater fool signing himself / herself up multiple times becoming the greatest fool!

Case #4: Member A claims the headers company convinced them that they are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) with papers to show, that’s why SEC and DTI never lifted a finger to investigate them ever since.

Myth #4: A company registration with SEC and DTI are enough evidence of legitimacy of a MLM-type compensation plan.

Reality: Unlike other countries, SEC and DTI to this day do not require companies intending to do MLM to have their compensation plan approved before operating. Registration is evidence of legal identity as a company, not legitimacy of MLM scheme. For instance, banks and suppliers would not want to give credit line if a company is unregistered. Last December 15, 2021, DTI issued administrative order 21-09 requiring existing direct selling and MLM companies to apply for the DTI Seal of Legitimacy as part of consumer protection.

Case #5: Member B claims their binary company is legitimate being a top taxpayer, major advertiser and given awards by different organizations and publications.

Myth #5: Awards, advertising and being top taxpayers are not evidence of the legitimacy of compensation plans.

Reality #5: Ask awards body, media company and internal revenue to explain pyramiding, unregistered investment versus legitimate MLM, and chances are, most cannot distinguish the fine print. Simply seeing awards, advertisements and being told the company is a top taxpayer, a major advertiser, or recipient of many awards, is playing on the gullibility of their members.

Case #6: Multitel Group of Rose Baladjay, used counsellors and sub-counsellors to attract some 2 million people investing some P100 billion in her company by offering them at least 4% interest monthly, or double-your-money scheme for a lock-in period of 18 months. The scheme collapsed after the number of new people investing started to dwindle.

Myth #6: You can take the risk early and withdraw your money just before the collapse of a pyramiding scheme. The benefit far out-weight the risk.

Reality: The penalty imposed by the court to Baladjay was a jail term of 7 years and to return some P8 million to her investors. Many times, investors are left dry!

It is possible that founders may not know they operate a pyramiding or header scam in the beginning, practicing the “Law of Foolish Fellowship”, having simply copied the scheme from other companies. They may later realize the only way to be sustainable is to have more recruits pay an amount in order to have funds to pay uplines but once they see the money, they refuse to amend their compensation plan to be legally compliant.

A sad reality is that many binary companies operating with headers still continue to operate freely as if they are exempted from the law.

It is time for consumers to be reminded to be alert and rely on being educated than simply expect to be protected when victimized. Caveat Emptor, let the buyer beware!

How Honest Can Your Company Be?

🔥🔥🔥Babala!! BASAHIN BUONG KWENTO!

How honest can your company be?

Real talk tayo 😊

Truly when you believe without a doubt -- 'yong one day na 'yon is -- TODAY  March 13, 2021 --

Network Marketers... Mistake No. 2

“Sali kana kasi saakin”

“Join kana”

“Yayaman tayo dito kaya Join Kana”

“The more you chase and the more you show that you need that SALE, The more People will repel you”

“✓ Seen Fri 6:04pm”

At ikaw naman, Kukulitin mo parin.

“Anjan ka pa po ba?”

“Helo! ano na po? Sasali ka pa ba?”

WAKE UP, Your showing a LACK OF POSTURE.

Ikaw? Magaling ka bang mag convince? If NO then thats great dahil hindi mo kinakailangan mag convince ng kahit na sino para lamang may mapa-join ka o para lamang may mabentahan ka.

Our Job is to Educate, Train, Help, Other people, not to convince People.

People are not turned off by Network Marketing, They Are Turned off by Network Marketeeeers.
Dahil ito sa mga ibat ibang tactics na ginagamit nila that are not showing any GOOD POSTURE.

WHAT IS POSTURE?

This is, HOW DO YOU PERCEIVE YOURSELF AS AN A LEADER?

Nakikita ka ba nila as a person that has a value to offer?

O nakikita ka nila as a SLEAZY and PUSHY SALESMAN?

At gusto mo lang silang marecruit dahil gusto mo silang mapag kakitaan?

Stop convincing people just for them to join you.

It is all In the state of your Mind, The way you think will affect...

(Closing is where you convert you leads into your Downline.)

WEAK POSTURE

Kapag ipinapakita mo sakanila na kailangan mo sila (Pag convince, Pang ha-hype,). You’re showing a Weak Posture.

When you are seeking for approval, you are not showing leadership and you’re showing a weak Posture.

Pleasing your prospects? You’re showing a weak posture.

THIS IS A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY

Sponsoring a Downline is like you are interviewing an Applicant, If you have a Multi-billion dollar company, basta-basta ka nalang bang magha-hire ng kahit na sino bastat sabihin lang nila na sila ay interesado na iyong inooffer? Hindi naman diba? This is a Multi-Billion dollar industry and that principle should also apply in Network Marketing Business.

If you Have a GOOD POSTURE, pwede din itong mangyari saiyo.

HOW TO HAVE A GOOD POSTURE?

Show That You Have a Value to Offer First (READ NETWORKERS MISTAKES 1) – When you give value to your prospects, sila na mismo ang lalapit saiyo dahil makikita nila na alam mo ang ginagawa mo, you are just simply POSISITION YOUR SELF AS THE EXPERT.

Never Convince, and Always Respect their Decisions – hindi lahat ng tao ay prospects, dahil hindi lahat ng tao ay handa na mag simula ng kanilang business agad-agad, STOP HYPING because they might end up choosing a wrong decision, Always respect their decisions at wag mong kakalimutan na BE THERE when they are ready.

Always take the LEAD – When you guide them, makikita ng iyong mga prospects na “you are a leader”, simply by giving them instructions and step by step guidelines.

PRIORITIZE “HELPING OTHERS” not “EARNING FROM OTHERS”Network Marketing Business is a People Helping People Business. Always and Always Focus on helping other people, because this will also radiates Leadership.

Have an Abundant Mindset – Hindi ka mauubusan ng prospects, kaya hindi mo kinakailangan makipag unahan at mag convince ng mga prospects. Kung wala kang Abundanat Mindset, ito ang magtutulak saiyo para gumawa ng mga ibat ibang bagay that will Weaken your Posture.

Kung mapapansin mo, lahat ng Qualities na ito ay makikita mo sa isang TRUE LEADER (Viral Team), so to make this short, if you want to have a good posture, you have to possess the quality of a TRUE LEADER.

Network Marketers... Mistake No. 3

The Best way for you to do is to TALK TO YOUR UPLINE, dahil walang ibang makakatulong saiyon kundi sya.

An Upline is like a mother or a father to you, at ikaw ay parang isang sangol, saangol na mabilis kapitan ng ibat ibang sakit.

CAN’T BASE YOUR SUCCESS THRU YOUR UPLINE’S

It’s a matter of decision making, if you really want to be successful the start deciding. Gusto mo ba talagang maging successful? Then take action. It will be base from your own actions.

QUICK TIPS:

How can you maximize your Teamwork?

Open up – Kung ano man ang pinag dadaanan mo, ask your upline, i'm sure that he or she is willing to help you dahil maaaring pinag daanan na niya kung ano man ang pinagdadaanan mo sa business na sinimulan mo ngayon na network marketing business.

Show your passion for learning – Hindi nakakasawang magturo sa isang tao na sabik na sabik matuto.

LEVERAGE EACH OTHER SKILLS – Meroon kang mga bagay na nahihirapang gawin, hindi lang ikaw, pati na din ang iyong upline, but if you work together and leverage each other skills, I know that you can accomplish extra-ordinary task. At sa ganitong paraan you will learn from each other.

Always show your gratitude – Be thankful that your upline introduce you to this wonderful opportunity at binigyan ka ng bagong mundo na gagalawan mo para ka mabago yong buhay hinaharap mo or para makuha mo yong mga goals mo sa buhay.

Sana ay mayroon kang natutunan sa blog post na'to, maximize your teamwork and have a wonderful and enjoyable business.
